Probate & Estate

Probate & Estate

A probate valuation is the assessing and valuing of a piece or pieces of jewellery in an estate. That could be a single piece, or a collection of pieces that have been bequeathed in a will, a divorce settlement or even perhaps found in a dress drawer. We can determine whether or not the items are real or imitation. We can then give you a full independent valuation of each item so you can be fully informed when you decide what to do with them.

Unlike insurance valuations, probate jewellery valuations are more involved. Probate valuations provide three relevant values being a retail replacement value if you were deciding to keep the items and wish to distribute them accordingly, and then a second value based on the value at an open market figure. In other words how much you can hope to sell the jewellery for at an auction, jewellery store or privately. Thirdly would be a value you could expect to receive if you were forced to sell the jewellery under duress with time restrictions, ie at a pawn broker or scrap metal merchant.
